Fiber-optic connections are comprised of strands of glass that are thinner than human hair and transfer data as light (literally, at the speed of light), allowing for the fastest symmetrical upload/download rates, which means your upload speeds are equivalent to your download speeds. Traditional cable delivers data using metal cables and is currently incapable of supporting symmetrical upload/download speeds.

Wifi and internet are not the same thing. Wifi is an alternative to using cables to connect devices. Wifi provides wireless internet connection from anyplace in your home using a modem that interprets the Cox signal. The router routes your internet connection throughout your home, allowing all of your gadgets to communicate with one another and with the internet.
A new device called an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) will be placed in your home. This gadget is provided free of charge by Cox and remains with your home if you move. It is often a little white plastic device installed in an inconspicuous central location in your home, or in a media panel, if one is available. The ONT serves as your modem, delivering internet signals from our fiber network to your home. To send the internet signal across your home via wifi or to connect several devices at the same time, you will still require a router or gateway.
The technician will connect your router to the ONT through an ethernet wire that they will give for wifi connectivity. If you already have a compatible router or a gateway (modem + router in one unit), the technician can connect it to get your wifi up and running. Please keep in mind that your wireless router or gateway may need to be relocated closer to the ONT device. If you do not already have an in-home wifi equipment, you can rent a Cox Panoramic Wifi gateway.

If you sign up for a term agreement to save money, ETFs apply to the termination of your Internet service but not to the cancellation of your TV, Phone, or Homelife Automation subscriptions. If you choose not to commit to a term agreement for your Internet service, choices without a term agreement are available for an additional minor monthly price. A separate 2-year term agreement with ETFs is required for Homelife Security with Starter Equipment Kit.
Yes, you may add your favorite premium channels (Max, STARZ, Cinemax, SHOWTIME) and channel packs featuring sports, movie, entertainment, news, and Latino networks to Contour TV. Additional channels cannot be added to TV Starter because it only supports a limited basic cable list.
